Dr. Fidler is an assistant professor of physical science and science education in the Department of Mathematics and Science at Wheelock College in Boston, MA. Chuck received his doctoral degree from Syracuse University in the field of science education. Chuck has a passion for physical sciences and researches undergraduate science programming. Dr. Fidler continues to publish and present his work at international conferences and in international and national peer-reviewed publications. Chuck’s scholarly work also examines how undergraduate non-majors and pre-service elementary teachers intersect with the scientific enterprise.
Dr. Fidler is an award winning faculty member who is dedicated to high-quality model science teaching and has won the Cynthia Longfellow Award for Excellence in Teaching as well as the Sylvia Earl Innovation Award for his continued inclusion of high-technology into the classroom.
Dr. Fidler is dedicated to delivering a high quality science education program which focuses on helping citizens better understand nature and the implications/applications of social interactions with the natural world.
Previously, Dr. Fidler taught courses in experimental and theoretical physics, physical science laboratory, physical science for elementary education majors, and elementary and secondary science methods. In addition to his previous collegiate teaching experience, Chuck has also taught physics at the secondary- and middle-school levels in the Boston, MA and Washington D.C. areas.
Currently, Dr. Fidler’s courses include Meteorology, Natural Disasters, Discovering Planet Earth, the Solar System, the Physics of Sports, and Teaching and Learning Elementary Science. Dr. Fidler continues to serve the professional field by reviewing manuscripts for the International Journal of Science Education, National Science Teachers Association, and the Association of Science Teacher Education as well as sits on the Editorial Board for the Science Education Review.
Dr. Fidler is a member of the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE), National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT).
Dr. Fidler is also the Director of First Year Academics at Wheelock College and works to create rigorous first year academic programs with necessary support structures to allow student success.
